Diablo 3 digs deep into Tyrael's saga, as he becomes"the" D2R Items Fallen Star by tearing off his own wings before falling into Sanctuary to where his descendants from the Nephalem dwell. Joining with one such powerful descendant, Tyrael banishes the primary evils and takes responsibility for the Black Soulstone. After the Archangel of Death, Maltheal, went after the stone and was able to turn on his allies, it was Tyrael who had his buddy go to Pandemonium to destroy death itself.

Tyrael chooses to keep his mortal form , but is reunited with his angelic brothers to transform into an Aspect of Justice as well as of Wisdom. Diablo 3 ends with him considering whether his new mortal counterpart, who could be corrupted, will one day become the next danger towards Heaven, Hell, and Sanctuary as well as life itself. The Aspect of Justice and Wisdom most likely won't be content while Inarius leads an army into Hell in search of his former lover, Lilith.

The latest Diablo 4 cinematic trailer from Blizzard features Inarius in a battle against Lilith, armies at both sides. While the film doesn't mention Tyrael's direct involvementin the story, his involvement in the creation of Horadrim and the influence he has on the various Paladins of Sanctuary implies that he's definitely at work. It is likely his presence will be experienced through these intermediaries, unless circumstances force his hand. Tyrael is still feeling the repercussions of destroying his Worldstone at the conclusion of Diablo 2. The mysterious artifact defended Sanctuary from Heaven and Hell, and he now acts as a protector for the land as its successor.
