WoTLK Gold confirmed that the controller support for controllers in WoW will be provided in the form that users will be given access to the API (API) to allow a controller configuration. You can't simply connect an Xbox or PlayStation controller and play WoW in the same way, but this API access will permit users using Xbox Adaptive Controller Xbox Adaptive Controller as well as other controllers access to the game in a way that is suitable to their preferences.

The new controller support is designed to give players with physical disabilities and other disabilities the ability to play WoW without too many headaches, Hazzikostas said.

"It's more about more direct API access that's aimed primarily towards those in the community of accessibility. There are plenty of people who do not have capability to use the keyboard and mouse, or traditional control tools who have relied on a myriad of complex workarounds to access devices like Microsoft's powerful controller that allow them to connect with the game world," he explained. "We wanted to remove the need to jump through all those hurdles. Also, we want to support more directly the API. We're interested to see what this community can come up with."

WoW isn't able to support the plug-and-play configuration of existing console controllers anytime soon. Due to the complexity of WoW's controls--you can possess more than a dozen options to choose from buy WoTLK Classic Gold, in fact--traditional controller support isn't an easy process.
