Dr. Monica Chahar, the best dermatologist in Dwarka, Delhi, gives some tips and tricks to keep oneself safe.

Enjoying a vacation is great—until one notices their skin has gotten two shades darker from the sun! Is it not? This is tanning. Suntanning is the process of increasing melanin (a skin pigment) due to exposure to sunlight. This is the skin's natural sun-protection mechanism. When exposed to direct sunlight, the body releases melanin below the skin's surface. Hence, the pigmentation increases and the tan gets darker the more UV radiation is exposed to the skin.

A tan can disrupt one’s look, so taking precautions before heading out in the sun is essential. In this blog, Dr. Monica Chahar, the best dermatologist in Dwarka, Delhi, gives some tips and tricks to keep oneself safe. She also talks about various treatments that one can opt for if a suntan has gotten out of hand.

Prevention Tips for Sun Tan

Here are some tips that may help one with preventing a skin tan.

  • One must cover themselves completely when going in sun tan to avoid tanning.
  • Always wear a hat and sunglasses and cover oneself with a cotton cloth.
  • Try to avoid going outside during the hottest parts of the day (10 am to 2 pm)
  • Before going outside, apply vitamin C serum and sunscreen and reapply it every two hours.
  • Keep hydrated. To keep one’s skin from becoming dry and chapped throughout the summer months, one must drink 3 litres of water.
  • Eat nutritious foods high in fibre, such as fruits and vegetables that are green in colour.
  • Be sure to reapply sun protection creams every 20 minutes if spending too much time outside or in a pool or beach.
  • Use mineral-based cosmetics rather than cream-based for the makeup application, as they are lightweight and compatible with sunscreen layers.
  • Wash face at least twice a day.

Tanning Treatment at Skin Decor

At Skin Decor, Dr. Monica Chahar provides two treatments for removing suntan. These are:

  • Chemical Peels: Chemical peels are a great way to get beautiful skin and remove tans. A chemical solution will be applied to the patient's skin during the process. This solution is pulled off once it has dried, taking the tanned skin with it as it comes off. The fresh skin has a healthy glow and no visible blemishes.
  •
  • Medical Facials and Spas: Out of the many medi facials available at Skin Decor, Dr. Chahar chooses the best-suited treatment for her patient. This may include skin-brite and oxy-gene facials. Both of these facials aim to provide the patient with hydrated and bright skin. Both these facials include antioxidants' benefits, which may help subsidise the effects of tanning.

According to Dr. Monica Chahar, avoiding sun exposure is the first and most crucial step in removing a tan. In most cases, the skin will shed the darkened skin cells and produce new ones, gradually causing the tan to fade away. Yet there are treatments that one can opt for to improve their appearance.
